A TWISTED shopper put a phone in his basket to take indecent pictures of female customers.
David Brown was spotted by staff at Tesco’s Bellshill store who thought he was getting too close for comfort to some women. They realised he was using the phone in his basket to film their underwear and private parts.
Brown (43), of Telford Street, Bellshill, denied a charge under the Sexual Offences Act, but was found guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court. Sheriff Thomas Millar put him on the sex offenders’ register and deferred sentence until July 5.
The sheriff called for background reports and an assessment of the risk Brown poses to the public. The accused had his bail continued. His bail order bans him from the store.
The incident happened on March 19 last year. The court heard a member of staff became suspicious after seeing Brown rubbing his basket against female shoppers and standing close to them.
Security staff were alerted and CCTV cameras were used to monitor him before the police were called. It’s understood none of the victims were identified. Brown was cleared of trying to destroy evidence by deleting images.
