SEVENTEEN young people from Motherwell recently took part in a three-day participation and leadership residential to learn how to play a more active role within their communities.

A selection of youngsters from each high school in the area were invited to the residential, which was organised by North Lanarkshire Council’s community learning and development section.

Over the three days, the young people were able to learn about local structures in their community and how to have a say as well as how to effectively put their opinions across to the people that matter.

Sean Hanlon, community learning and development worker, said: “The participants were fantastic. All of the group were aware of the positives and negatives of living in Motherwell and were keen to work with the council and Motherwell Youth Voice to improve services in their communities.”
