New College Lanarkshire recently achieved a UK first when it established a partnership with European Education organisation, EcoMedia Europe.

Representatives from the computing and creative industries department at the Motherwell campus met with counterparts from EcoMedia Europe and Autodesk Europe.

Head of department Matthew Smith said: “EcoMedia provides funding through the European Commission for conferences and training events which staff can attend, present and deliver across Europe.

“It fits well with New College Lanarkshire’s outward-facing approach to building skills for both our students and staff.

“We are delighted to be EcoMedia’s first UK partner and we look forward to working with our European partners.’

New College Lanarkshire principal Martin McGuire added: “This is another first for New College Lanarkshire, emphasising our objective of providing the best education we can for our students.

“This partnership is the next step in building upon what we have already achieved in first-class educational provision in the field of information and communication technology (ICT).

“I look forward to working alongside EcoMedia to make even better opportunities available.”

EcoMedia Europe’s 9th Thematic Conference will take place at Hedmark University College in Norway this October and New College Lanarkshire hopes to be involved in both presenting at the conference and also in the workshop events on the fringe of the conference.

EcoMedia director Herbert Eile said: “We are very pleased to be undertaking this partnership with New College Lanarkshire.

“We are looking forward to the Thematic Conference as well as the forthcoming EcoMedia Summer Academy which will be held with international ICT workshops at the college in summer 2015.”
