Tragedy at Taekwon-Do event

A FORMER Viewpark man collapsed and died while competing at a Taekwon-Do event in Livingston on Sunday.

Patrick Timoney (42), who ran Glasgow East Taekwon-Do, is thought to have suffered a heart attack while carrying out the ‘patterns’ discipline as he sat his fifth degree black belt.

His wife Jackie, who was on the judging panel, watched on helplessly as his friend John McIlvaney attempted to administer CPR while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

Mr Timoney, who lived in Coatbridge with his wife and their three children Aiden (14), Erin (9) and Cody (four months), was taken to St John’s Hospital in Livingston where he was pronounced dead.

A statement from the family said: “Patrick was a larger than life character a generous and genuine man who had a special aura surrounding him, his outlook on life was one of the best and he could brighten up anyone’s day.

“We may not understand why he was taken from us too soon, but Paddy will continue to bring a smile to our faces and enrich our lives for years to come through the many wonderful memories we all hold dear in our hearts.”
