Thieves target council office
TARGET . . . building was broken into twice in one week
THIEVES made off with laptops and mobile phones during two break-ins just days apart at Motherwell’s Dalziel Building.
The North Lanarkshire Council office block on Scott Street was first targeted between 3pm on July 15 and 8am the following day.
Several laptops, mobile phones and a small amount of cash - from staff kitties - was swiped.
A few other laptops were stolen in another break-in around 12.30am on Monday.
The council denied there was information relating to children on the laptops and told the Times there was no personal or sensitive information being stored on them.
It is thought some of the computers contained traffic planning software, while others had no data on them at all.
Security at the building has now been beefed up following a review.
A spokesman for North Lanarkshire Council said: “A number of laptops and mobile phones were taken in separate break-ins at the Dalziel Building along with a small amount of cash.
“The laptops were fully encrypted to the highest specification and did not contain any personal or sensitive information.
“We do not discuss details of security arrangements, however a review has taken place and additional measures are now in place.”
Information regarding the thefts should be reported to Motherwell police office on 01698 483000.
