MAGNIFICENT SEVEN . . . the happy group after completing their walk.

A GROUP of friends from Bellshill have raised over £1,000 for the Maggie’s cancer support charity by walking the West Highland Way.

And they are hoping to boost their total further with a charity night which will be held in The Orb on Saturday.

Angela Murphy teamed up with six of her friends to step it out in aid of the charity as a way of thanking them for helping her mum Elizabeth through her battle with cancer.

Elizabeth, from Crofthead Crescent, began her fight this time last year and has just been given the all clear.

Angela and friends Laura McTavish, Kevin Daly, Mark Higgins, Kevin Donnelly, David Henderson and Joe Tallo, all from Bellshill, walked the 96-mile West Highland Way, from Milngavie to Fort William, at the beginning of June.

Angela said: “Everyone who took part was amazing and we’d just like to thank everyone who took the time to sponsor us.”

Saturday’s night will include raffles, auctions, a quiz, bingo, singer, DJ and buffet. Advance tickets are sold out but Anglela said people will be welcome to pay £5 at the door.
