School rocked by second tragedy
TAYLOR HIGH in New Stevenston has been rocked by a second tragedy in the space of a month.
In December the school mourned the loss of sixth year pupil Joe Wilson who died five days after suffering a heart attack.
On Saturday the school was once again brought together in grief as they laid to rest long-serving geography teacher Larry O’Hare who died suddenly on January 16.
Mr O’Hare joined Taylor more than 20 years ago, rising to serve as acting principal teacher of geography between 2006 and 2011.
He also played an important role in the faith life of the school as a Eucharistic Minister and away from the classroom was a talented writer.
Mr O’Hare also taught himself to speak Italian and had a love of opera and photography, taking pictures at many school events.
His funeral was held at St David’s Church in Plains.
Headteacher Gerry McCormick said: “Larry will be much missed by all members of staff and pupils and leaves a big gap in the life of the school.”
