Twin brothers Nathan and Ben McQuaid face a not so happy birthday after the bikes they got as presents were stolen.

The boys, who are 11 later this month, were delighted to get the bikes early so they could take part in a school cycling test.

But joy turned to despair when they were stolen from outside the brothers’ home in Reen Place, Bothwell, on Saturday.

Now Nathan and Ben, pupils at Bothwell Primary School, are hoping the thieves have a conscience as they appeal for the return of their gifts.

Nathan said: “It’s ruined the holiday weekend for us as we can’t go out with our friends.”

Ben added: “We just hope that if the people who took the bikes realise they are birthday presents they will return them.”

The bikes, like the twins, are identical - Apollo Switch models, grey and green in colour.

Anyone with information about the theft or who has seen such a bike for sale is asked to contact the police.
