Roadworks under way in Bothwell
MAJOR resurfacing work is to be carried out along Bothwell’s Main Street and Hamilton Road starting next week.
The work will take place from Monday, July 2, to Friday, July 13, and will be carried out along the stretch of Main Street and Hamilton Road from Fallside Road to the Bothwell Road/Bellshill Road roundabout at Bothwell Bridge.
The programme will be carried out over three phases and a 10mph convoy working system will be in place over the two-week period. Work will be suspended at weekends.
The work will be carried out by Colas Ltd and will involve a ‘Repave’ process, a road recycling technique which reduces CO2 emissions, waste and energy consumption and also tends to be a quicker process than traditional resurfacing methods.
Councillor Chris Thompson, chairman of South Lanarkshire Council’s enterprise resources committee, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.
“We have carefully programmed them to take place during the school summer holiday period when traffic flows are reduced. This will hopefully reduce the impact on road users, businesses and residents.
“Whilst we will make every effort to accommodate local businesses and residents, some disruption will be inevitable and we would welcome co-operation during the works. We would ask that people who cannot avoid the area leave a little longer for their journeys.”
