Road safety worry for Motherwell students

STUDENTS at Motherwell College will continue to dice with danger getting across a busy road after North Lanarkshire Council confirmed there is no plan in place for a pedestrian crossing.

They are crossing Craigneuk Street at the Flemington roundabout and the issue was highlighted at a meeting of Ladywell Community Council whose members fear there will be a serious accident if nothing is done.

Bosses at Motherwell College have been aware of the issue since the college first opened in August last year and have had talks with North Lanarkshire Council and bus operator First to try to find to a solution.

A spokesman for the college said: "With regard to students crossing the main road, we've highlighted our safety concerns to the council."

A council spokesman, however, said: "There are no plans at present to introduce any road crossings on Craigneuk Street at Motherwell College."
