Residents concerned over floating charge

RESIDENTS of a housing estate in Mossend have hit out after being asked by their new property maintenance factor to stump up £100 per household to be used as a ‘float’.

People living in Stoneways Park received letters from Kirkintilloch-based Apex Property Factor demanding the cash in addition to their monthly maintenance fee.

Apex took over responsibility for looking after the estate - which includes Glenfinnan Grove, Culloden Avenue, McKeown Gardens and McLaren Drive - after previous factors FSE (Scotland) Ltd went into liquidation in April.

However a number of residents are not happy after already being out of pocket because their annual fee still had several months to run when FSE went bust.

The firm have said the £100 charge is refundable - but only if the resident sells their property and the new buyer pays their ‘float’ instead.

But one resident said: “People are not happy at having to pay £100 up front. If we are paying an annual fee I don’t see why they should ask us for a float as well - do they not have their own float?”

However Apex director Christine Davidson Bakhshaee said the firm had already spent a considerable amount of money rectifying the neglect of the previous factor.
