Religious statue stolen during school break-in

CALLOUS thieves broke into Motherwell’s Cathedral Primary School while it was closed for the festive break.

Police believe the culprits struck sometime between 12.30 and 11pm last Wednesday (January 2).

A laptop was swiped as well as a religious statue, and the school is keen to replace both items as soon as possible.

Headteacher Maria Shields said: “We were extremely disappointed to discover the school had been broken into during the festive holidays.

“A laptop and statue were stolen, and damage caused to the doors, as the thieves forced their way in. This is a real blow for the school and the pupils are especially upset.

“The school is right at the heart of this community and we are really disappointed and I know our parents will share my anger and frustration.

“We will look to replace the equipment as soon as possible, but given the tough financial times we are living in, this is becoming increasingly difficult. I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact the police.”

Anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity around the school last Wednesday is urged to call PC Strathern at Wishaw police office on 01698 202600.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called free and confidentially on 0800 555 111.
