Parents not giving up on fight to save their school

THE mum at the forefront of the campaign to save Calder Primary School from closure this week blasted North Lanarkshire Council over its response to the public consultation on its proposal.

The council last week published a lengthy report detailing issues raised and the council education service’s response.

But Karen McKinstry said the council’s report failed to adequately address many of the points raised by opponents of the plan to shut Calder in June and switch pupils to Muir Street or Glencairn Primary.

She criticised the council for concentrating more on overcoming potential safety problems at Muir Street than on how the closure would affect the children’s education.

However she insisted that she still hopes councillors could be persuaded to keep the school open when the council’s learning and leisure committee makes its decision on February 6.
