X-Factor finalist Nicholas McDonald has turned from contestant to judge in a bid to help raise funds for a cancer charity.

This time last year the Motherwell teenager was hoping to impress the judges on the X-Factor as he started a journey all the way to the final.

Now he’s looking to help find a new star himself to perform at ex-Celtic hero John Hartson’s charity ball.

The former St Aidan’s High pupil is among the celebrity judges who will choose the winning act to take the stage at the star-studded event in Glasgow’s Thistle Hotel, on Saturday, October 18.

The winner of the talent contest will be on the same bill as Nicholas, Westlife heart-throb Brian McFadden and and Scotland’s hottest new boyband Rewind.

The ball will raise funds for John’s cancer charity, set up five years ago after his life-threatening battle with the disease.

Nicholas said: “John is a massive football hero in Scotland and it’s a privilege to be involved.

“Having been through the X-Factor, I’d encourage anyone who has a talent to try out for this opportunity – it’ll be great fun and they’ll be helping raise money for a great cause.”
