Newarthill mums make their mark

A THREE-YEAR-OLD Newarthill boy with an inoperable brain tumour has inspired a group of mums to makeover the village with their fundraising efforts.

The Newarthill Hill Raisers are hoping to spark a bit of life back into the Newarthill community.

Their efforts began when little Charlie Forrester was diagnosed with a brain tumour in June last year.

Led by chairwoman Carole Hendry, the mums' first fundraising night for Charlie, his mum Nikki, dad Jim and sisters Chloe (11) and Amy (9) saw the group raise a mammoth 28,044.43.

That included 20,000 pledged by a local company over four years to Yorkhill Hospital where Charlie is being treated.

The group are now also looking to help the elderly residents at McCormack Gardens in Newarthill, as well as a makeover of Welfare Park doing something for young people.

The group's next event is at The Club on Thursday, April 1, and there will be a live band and buffet.
