New owners pledge upgrade for Bellshill market
THE new owners of the Aladdins indoor market in Bellshill have pledged to spend money on an upgrade to help give the town centre a much-needed boost.
The deal between the Corson family, former owners of the market, and Glasgow-based purchasers Sava Estates, was formally concluded last week, ending speculation about the market's long-term future.
Earlier his year traders were told by owner John Corson that the market would close because it was no longer economically viable.
But the new owners have already unveiled a banner pledging the market is here to stay and announced that it will undergo major refurbishment.
A spokesman for Sava Estates said: "The uncertainty is over and has been replaced by committed long term investment in the shopping centre which has a superb spot facing free car parking whilst just off the Main Street.
"We hope the visible improvements will attract new shoppers to this local establishment and encourage shoppers to return to Bellshill town centre and complement all local businesses."
