The children of St Patrick’s Primary School in New Stevenston worked very hard during Lent to raise money to help youngsters in Malawi.

They raised the magnificent sum of £1,025.18 for Classrooms For Malawi. All the money raised will go towards renovating a classroom in Katteti Primary School which is close to Blantyre in Malawi.

Tony Begley, from the charity, visited the school to accept a cheque and will return in the autumn term with pictures of the renovated classroom.

During Lent the children also collected 98 backpacks and three large boxes of soap for Mary’s Meals Backpack Appeal.

Headteacher Ann Marie Boyd praised the children and the community of St Patrick’s for supporting these worthwhile causes.

More news from the classrooms in the Times & Speaker, on sale on Wednesday.
