Minister will rule on Sainsbury’s plan
LOCAL Government and Planning minister Derek Mackay MSP will make the decision on Sainsbury’s appeal to build a 90,000 sq ft supermarket in Hamilton Road, Motherwell, himself.
Normally a Scottish Government reporter determines if refusal of a planning application should be overturned.
However, Sainsbury’s has been advised by Holyrood that the minister will take responsibility ‘because of the scale and significance of the development and potential cross-boundary impacts’.
A spokesman for Sainsbury’s said: “We are pleased that our appeal to Scottish Ministers is making progress and that it will be determined in due course.
“We believe our proposal would bring the right store of the right size in the right location to Motherwell and would like to thank those who continue to show us such fantastic support.”
