Max finds love at Bellshill nursing home

HATTON Lea nursing home in Bellshill has a new resident — a dog called Max.

The two-year-old crossbreed has been settling in at the Belvidere wing after being rehomed from the Scottish SPCA centre in Hamilton.

Staff decided to get a dog after noticing the positive reaction from the residents when visitors brought their dogs to the home.

And it wasn't long before the group fell in love with the pooch, who was put into the kennels as his owner could no longer look after him.

He was chosen by staff with the help of residents Charlotte Salmon and Peggy Coventry, who were impressed with his good nature.

Charlotte said: "We picked him because he was quiet and not boisterous. He's a good dog."

Staff and residents take turns walking Max, and have even been taking him to Strathclyde Park.

He has a bed in the day room and is free to walk around the Bupa home and a garden area, which has been specially fenced off to keep him safe.

Staff at the SSPCA centre are delighted Max has found a new home as he has had two previous owners, and are hoping this is a case of third time lucky.

Animal care assistant Wendy Hamilton said: "We felt very sorry for Max when he arrived back with us, but when the lady from Hatton Lea Care Home came looking for a dog to take to work with her we knew Max would be perfect."
