Man jailed after raid double at bookies
A MAN who robbed a Bellshill betting shop minutes after a failed raid at another bookmaker has been jailed for two and a half years.
David Hunter told frightened staff he had a gun and forced two female assistants to hand over £85.
The raids sparked a huge police operation in Bellshill and Hunter was arrested after ordering a taxi to provide his getaway.
He was originally charged with hold-ups at four betting shops in the town on the same night.
However, two of the charges were dropped before his appearance at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.
Hunter (25), of Glasgow, admitted assault with intent to rob at Ladbrokes in Hamilton Road on October 15 and robbery at William Hill in Main Street the same night.
Full story in this week’s Bellshill Speaker and Motherwell Times, out on Wednesday.
