Love continues to shine like a diamond

MOSSEND couple Tony and Betty Hall enjoyed not one, but two, celebrations as they marked 60 years of marriage.

First they travelled to Manchester to see son Ronnie and his family and then on Saturday went out with daughter Christine and her family in Hamilton.

Tony said: “I offered to pay, but they wouldn’t let me.”

The couple met when Tony, who is originally from Peterborough, was carrying out his National Service and was stationed at Maryhill Barracks with Betty’s brother Tom who took him home to meet the family in Uddingston.

They were married at West Church in Fallside on September 20, 1952, and set up home in Alpine Terrace, off New Edinburgh Road, before moving to Laburnum Road, Fallside, and have spent the last 22 years in Ella Gardens.

Tony initally worked as a welder before an illness forced him to quit and he moved on to work as a delivery driver for confectionery companies, while Betty was an office manager at Del Monte Kitchen and Scottish & Newcastle Breweries - at the latter working with Christine.

As well as their children, Ronnie and Christine, the family has now grown to include five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
