CALLOUS thieves have left local Scouts with a fundraising headache after swiping their bikes.
The 1st Bellshill and Mossend group is reeling after discovering that nine bikes being stored in a lock-up during the winter had been stolen.
The six adult and three children’s bikes had been put in a container near Elmbank Street at the start of November as the bad weather approached.
And leaders were shocked to discover the locks on the container had been busted and the bikes - worth around £2,000 - removed when they visited the site at the weekend.
Scout leader Neil Kelly told the Speaker: “The lock-up would be quite difficult to get to, there’s not a lot of access at the front, but there are a few holes in the fence from the station side.
“I think whoever has stolen the bikes has found them and thought ‘jackpot’, and then came back for them.”
