An investigation has been launched after an excavator was rammed into the Ravenscraig sports facility in an apparent early morning raid bid.
Police are appealing for information after the incident, which took place sometime between 3 and 4am last Tuesday (August 12).
The Caterpillar vehicle, left on-site by a contractor, was driven into shutter-style doors at the sports hall, at the side of the building.
It is believed that nothing has been stolen from inside, though the damage caused has left a repair bill of several thousand pounds.
Police are now scouring hours of CCTV footage in a bid to trace the suspects.
