Council houses are to be built on the site of the former Calder Primary School in Motherwell as part of a North Lanarkshire Councilprogramme.
A total of 45 new properties in Motherwell and New Stevenston have been included in the £150 million Building for the Future programme to create 1,000 new homes across the authority area by 2020.
Councillors have approved the plans subject to further site investigation, feasibility studies and planning consultation.
The proposals will take the new build programme up until 2017/18 and include 30 properties on the site of the former Calder Primary, which closed in June, and 15 properties on the former New Stevenston Primary School site.
Elaine McHugh, Head of Housing Services said: “This is another exciting development in our new build programme.”
