Guilty of killing ex’s new man
Police launched murder probe after Lindum Crescent stabbing
A MAN has been convicted of stabbing to death the new boyfriend of his ex.
However, Sean McLaughlin was cleared at the High Court in Glasgow of murdering 37-year-old Robert Brown, of Draffen Tower, Motherwell.
Mr Brown died at his girlfriend Linda Patrick’s home in Lindum Crescent, Motherwell, on May 13 last year.
The court heard Mr Brown, known as Bomber, died of internal bleeding after suffering a punctured lung.
After the killing McLaughlin, of New Stevenston, sent Ms Patrick a text which read ‘Ha, ha’.
McLaughlin told the court Mr Brown had two knives and blocked his way out of Ms Patrick’s house. A fight broke during which McLaughlin grabbed one of the knives. The scuffle ended with Mr Brown fatally injured.
The jury cleared McLaughlin of murder and found him guilty of the lesser charge of culpable homicide. Sentence was deferred until next month.
