Groups urged to apply for share of funding windfall

ORGANISATIONS in the Bellshill area who run or are planning activities for older people are being urged to apply for a share of a special fund.

The Locality Activity Fund will provide resources to support the development of additional activity for older people in Bellshill in line with priorities set out under the Scottish Government-backed Reshaping Care for Older People initiative.

A total of £15,000 has been allocated to the Bellshill area. Applications are now being invited and a series of information events has been arranged for groups to find out more.

The application process is being co-ordinated locally by Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre and operations manager Irene Gibson said money would be distributed to activities which complement other provision for older people in the area.

She said: “Applications will be required to demonstrate how the funded activity will reduce isolation and loneliness for older people, improve the health and wellbeing of older people and carers, encourage participation and value diversity or help older people to develop new skills and live independently.

“The application process in Bellshill will be coordinated by the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre and decision making around applications will be made through a local consortium of community and statutory agencies.”

Information events for interested organisations to find out more will take place at the following venues and times - Tuesday, February 12, Sir Matt Busby Sports Complex, Bellshill, 1-4pm; Wednesday, February 13, Viewpark Community Centre, 12.30-4.30pm; Thursday, February 14, Macdonald Memorial Church Hall, Bellshill, 9am-1pm; Friday, February 15, Michael Sherry Centre, Holytown, 9am-1pm.

The closing date for applications is Friday, March 1, and members of the consortium will be available at the event to provide assistance in completing applications.

Anyone unable to attend and requiring more information should contact Irene Gibson on 01698 573256 or e-mail irene@oncbellshill.org.
