Grandad Michael lands £7million lotto windfall

A GRANDAD from Holytown has landed a £7 million lottery windfall after buying his ticket at a newsagents in Mossend.

Michael Lafferty (68) was the only person to match all six numbers in the October 13 National Lottery draw, scooping the jackpot of £7,105,939.

But the retired scrap dealer initially didn’t realise he had won until he checked his numbers more than a week later.

And the big-hearted widower’s first thought was to split his winnings between his four daughters, Gillian, Mary, Anne and Sharon.

Michael’s winning numbers in the rollover draw were 14, 26, 30, 32, 36 and 48.

Family and friends of Michael have told of their delight at his good luck.

A former colleague said: “Michael is sharing it among his daughters and the whole family are delighted.

“Something like this couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. He is one of the most generous people I’ve ever met, he would give you the shirt off his back.”

Another friend added: “Michael has four daughters and a number of grandchildren and is very close to his family. He was not interested in keeping all the money for himself and is splitting it evenly between his family.”
