Go after the real criminals
LICENSEE Graham Wood and business parner Rebecca Laughlin.
A PUBLICAN cleared of stealing electricity has hit out at the ‘waste of police time’ the case against him involved.
Graham Wood said his health suffered during a 19-month wait to establish his innocence and claimed officers would have been better pursuing muggers and other criminals.
Mr Wood (56) spoke this week after being found not guilty of tampering with the electricity meter at Newarthill’s Cottage Inn.
He said: “I wouldn’t take a penny that didn’t belong to me and have never committed an offence in my life.”
Mr Wood is angry at the role played by police in routine visits by electricity inspectors to licensed premises.
He said: “It’s like the police are being used as revenue collectors for Scottish Power.
“A lot of police time has been wasted chasing a completely innocent person like me when some old lady’s probably being mugged around the corner.”
