Fury as Bellshill Woolworths workers miss out on cash
FORMER workers at Bellshill’s Woolworths store have been left bitterly disappointed after being excluded from a UK-wide compensation deal.
Shop workers union Usdaw won compensation worth up to £67.8 million for over 24,000 employees of Woolworths who were made redundant when the firm collapsed at the end of 2008.
Friday’s announcement came after months of legal wrangling, with the Employment Tribunal in London awarding Usdaw members 60 days pay.
However, a snag in the deal means that staff who worked in the Bellshill shop may never receive a penny.
