A driver who caused a three-car crash in which a boy of three was badly injured has been jailed for two years at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Thomas Jarvis (41) lost control of his car at speed in Avon Street, Motherwell, and veered on to the wrong side of the road. A woman aged 64 was also injured in the crash last June.

Jarvis, of Osprey Crescent, Wishaw, admitted dangerous driving and being under the influence of drink or drugs.

He was also banned from driving for five years and ordered to resit his test.

Claims that he shouted at the injured woman, had cannabis, tried to hide cocaine in his pants and failed to provide a blood specimen were dropped.
