THE world-famous Tunnock’s Tea Cake has often been a source of inspiration, and now the Uddingston icon has been fashioned into a dress.

Amber McDowell (16), of St Ambrose High in Coatbridge, created a dress out of the distinctive red and silver wrappers for a school art project.

And she was rewarded for her efforts with a tour around the biscuit factory courtesy of owner Boyd Tunnock CBE.

Amber said: “It was really exciting to be able to bring the dress down to the factory and show it off to Mr Tunnock and the staff.

“Getting a tour of the factory was brilliant and it felt a bit like being in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie!”

Mr Tunnock added: “I was so impressed when I saw the dress. It’s a wonderful design and Amber has shown real artistic talent creating a spectacular dress with such intricate style.”
