D-day looming for Calder parents

NORTH Lanarkshire Council this week published its response to the points raised in the public consultation over its plan to shut Motherwell’s Calder Primary School and nursery class.

Although the report does not recommend whether or not the proposed closure should go ahead, it attempts to answer concerns raised at the public consultation meeting in Braidhurst High School, at a meeting of Calder staff and through responses by various individuals and parent councils.

The final decision on whether to shut Calder and relocate pupils to either Muir Street or Glencairn Primary will be made by the council’s learning and leisure committee on February 6.

But the council’s report is unlikely to provide much comfort to campaigners fighting to keep the school open.
