Council give apprenticeship jobs boost green light

ALMOST 2,000 more people are to be helped into work after plans to combat unemployment in North Lanarkshire were given the green light.

As reported in last week’s Times & Speaker, millions of pounds will be injected into an initiative from North Lanarkshire’s Working over the next three years.

The partnership - in which North Lanarkshire Council is the lead agency, but also includes NHS Lanarkshire, Routes to Work Ltd and Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire and Motherwell, Coatbridge and Cumbernauld colleges - currently helps 1,100 people into employment each year.

However, the new plans - which were backed at a meeting of the council’s regeneration committee last Wednesday - aim to increase that by around 570 each year, boosting the three-year figure from around 3,300 to just over 5,000.
