Consultation over park 2014 event
A PUBLIC consultation will take place next week to explain to people who live near Strathclyde Country Park how they will be affected by the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The park will play host to the triathlon and the games organising committee is undertaking the consultation over changes that can be expected for Games time.
People living near the park have been invited to find out more about how their local area will be affected at a drop-in session at the Strathclyde Park Rowing Club clubhouse on Tuesday between 3pm and 7pm.
Temporary measures, known as overlay, will be implemented in and around the venue and proposals include temporary structures to provide facilities for spectators, athletes, media and officials ranging from portable buildings and security fencing to temporary lighting and power sources. Residents living near to the venue are being asked to view and comment on draft proposals that will go to city planners later this year.
Information will also be provided and feedback sought on what the overlay will include, how it will operate and what local changes it may involve ranging from access and security to road and traffic measures.
The temporary overlay will be installed in the months leading up to the Games and removed afterwards, returning the venue to its present state.
Glasgow 2014’s chief operating officer Ralph Ord said: “Temporary changes in and around Strathclyde Country Park are needed to deliver an outstanding triathlon event that everyone can enjoy and have been designed and located to minimise inconvenience.”
