BELLSHILL charity fundraiser Ray Mitchell has become one of the first recruits in the Yes Scotland campaign to secure independence in the forthcoming referendum.

Ray is listed among the first 100 people to sign a declaration calling for decisions on Scotland’s future to be taken by Scots themselves.

The list, which was unveiled at a ceremony in Edinburgh on Friday, includes a cross-section of members of the community as well as a number of celebrities known for their pro-independence stance, including Sir Sean Connery, fellow actors Alan Cumming, Brian Cox and James Cosmo and musicians Pat Kane and The Proclaimers.

Ray said she was proud to have been involved in a potentially historic declaration.
