Centre gets boost with new stores

TWO new retailers will open their doors in Motherwell’s Brandon Shopping Centre on Friday with the creation of more than 20 jobs.

Household goods firm PerfectHome is taking over the remaining ground floor space in the former Asda building on Brandon Parade South, while male fashion supplier The Officers Club will be on the other side of the mall after an 18-month absence.

PerfectHome’s development will include a traditional store and a service and distribution centre which will support the company’s other three stores in Scotland, creating 11 full-time jobs.

Area manager Alastair Walls said: “Opening the new store has provided much-needed local jobs for local people.

“They are full-time, permanent positions complete with opportunities for career progression. We’ve recruited a strong team and I’m confident they will help us deliver great customer service.”

Motherwell’s branch of The Officers Club was one of the casualties when the business went into administration in March 2011.

However the firm’s new owners are now building the business back up and are bringing 10 new jobs to the town.

Chief executive Steven Cohen said: “We are really excited to be opening a new store in Motherwell.

“Not only will this provide a number of jobs in the community, we hope the store will create a real buzz amongst fashion conscious lads in the area.”

William Gear, director of Chester Properties, who own and run the shopping centre, was delighted to welcome both brands to Motherwell.

TREND

He said: “Christmas is coming early to Motherwell town centre as we continue to buck the trend of failing high streets by attracting big name retailers to the town.

“It’s great to attract major new retailers to the town in such tough economic times and proof that our partnership with North Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Government is continuing to yield dividends.”
