Cathedral Primary are top of the class with inspectors

CATHEDRAL Primary in Motherwell has received North Lanarkshire's best ever report for a primary school from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of education (HMIe).

It received three 'excellent' evaluations and two 'very good' evaluations showing major strengths in improvements in performance, learners' experiences and meeting learning needs.

Examples of good practice include support for children as an additional language (EAL) as the school has many Polish and Congolese students.

There was also praise for Come clubbing @ Cathedral which are a range of clubs for pupils including sport, dance and writing for the school newspaper.

Inspectors believed Cathedral provided high quality education handled by a head teacher in Maria Shields who is an outstanding leader.

Maria said: "Our entire team of staff work tirelessly to ensure they meet the needs of all children and our excellence in improvement in performance, learners' experiences and meeting learning needs is testimony to their commitment."
