Cash boost for Orbiston centre

A BELLSHILL community facility has landed a Government funding windfall.

Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre has been awarded 40,430 from the Scottish Government's Third Sector Resilience Fund as part of a 2.2million fund shared by 64 organisations across Scotland.

The cash will enable the centre, in Busby Road next to Orbiston Parish Church, to maintain and develop the wide range of services it offers the community.

The centre delivers activities for all age groups, including a caf and catering service, food co-op, childcare, computer classes, older persons' care, volunteering and befriending projects.

Chairperson Sean Hanlon said: "We have tightened our belts to ensure our centre has been able to keep running. This funding is very important because it will give us a boost to overcome the downturn."
