Cannabis grower avoids jail

HAMILTON SHERIFF COURT

HAMILTON SHERIFF COURT

A man who grew cannabis plants at a house in Motherwell has been ordered to do 300 hours of unpaid community work.

Brian Moran (38), whose current address was given as Scotstoun Street, Glasgow, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court. He admitted cultivating the drug in Hadrian Terrace in November 2012.

Allegations that he tampered with the electricity meter and was concerned in the supply of cannabis were dropped.

The cultivation was discovered when the landlord called at the house to check on the tenants.

Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen warned the work order was a direct alternative to jail.
