Businessman jailed for drug dealing

A BELLSHILL businessman convicted of drug dealing was today jailed for 18 months.

Ronnie Campbell (53), of Busby Road, had been found guilty of being concerned in the supply of amphetamine worth £30,000.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard the drugs were found after police stopped a taxi he was travelling in.

Campbell, formerly a publican and the owner of car repair centres in Lanarkshire, was caught in November 2006, but the trial was delayed after he went to Tenerife where he had business interests.

In court today his lawyer pleaded for Campbell to be spared jail, saying he cares for both his elderly mother and sister.

But Sheriff John Miller said the accused had been caught with a ‘large’ amount of drugs and prison was the only appropriate sentence.

Full story in this week’s Bellshill Speaker, out on Wednesday.
