Buses to return to Bellshill town centre

BUS services are set to return to Bellshill's Main Street in a bid to help traders affected since the introduction of the town centre's controversial new traffic management system.

The loss of trade being felt by shops because buses were no longer bringing customers to Main Street was one of the main points raised at a recent public meeting held by North Lanarkshire Council's Bellshill & District area committee.

And at a follow-up meeting in Bellshill Academy, committee convener Richard Lyle said agreement had been reached with Strathclyde Passenger Transport Executive for services to again be routed along Main Street.

He said a number of other measures would be introduced in response to points made, including the creation of extra taxi ranks and a range of proposals to combat problems caused by the new two-way system at Crossgates.
