Building for the future
DESIGN FOR LIFE . . . an impression of the new eco houses.
THE first eco house has been built on the BRE Innovation Park at Ravenscraig.
The three-bedroom house, designed by AppleGreen Homes and built in partnership with Morrison Scotland, took eight weeks to build and provided Morrison with the opportunity to train its apprentices on a different aspect of construction.
It is situated on plot one of the site and is one of the greenest homes in Scotland, having been built to be fully energy efficient and meet all the building standards up to 2016.
Designed with the help of Glasgow Caledonian University, the house is built from a steel modular frame and is highly insulated and airtight, ensuring very low ongoing energy bills.
The use of solar power means that the property can provide much of its own hot water and heating as well as electricity.
Willie Docherty, managing director, Morrison Scotland, said: “This has been a fantastic project for Morrison Scotland and I hope it will lead to us being able to build more energy efficient homes for the social housing market in partnership with Apple Green Homes.
“It has also been a great experience for our apprentices who have not only been able to try their hand at new build construction but have been able to learn about energy efficient building.”
