Bishop Devine reports to Rome as Pope prepares Scottish visit
BISHOP of Motherwell Joseph Devine has jetted out to Rome for a five-yearly visit to the Holy See.
He was among a group of Scottish Catholic Bishops to travel to Italy for the week-long 'Ad Limina', which means 'to the thresholds of the Apostles'.
The bishops will visit the tombs of the Apostles and present a report to the Holy Father on the state of their dioceses.
Bishop Devine said: "In preparation for his visit to Scotland in September, the Scottish Bishops will be assuring Pope Benedict that few places in the world can match Scotland when it comes to offering warmth and friendship to visitors.
"Who can ever forget the wonderful reception given to Pope John Paul II by the Scots when he visited our country in 1982.
"In his time as Pope, Benedict has been recognised worldwide as a good and decent man – a missionary of peace and hope and goodness, promoting the truth and light of Christ's message to all mankind.
"He is not only welcome but a much needed visitor to our shores. His visit could not be more timely for so many Christians who feel under siege in our society today."
