YOUNGSTERS from Bellshill and Mossend YMCA’s out of school care service have literally ‘done it themselves’ by creating what is thought to be Scotland’s biggest ‘noughts and crosses’ game.

Children from the service have been taking part in DIY workshops at the B&Q depot in Coatbridge under the tutelage of staff members Bob Lakey and John McDonald.

The aim was to introduce children to DIY and encourage them to develop practical and useful skills at an early age.

Childcare manager Alan Cairns said: “The children asked if they could upscale one of the toys they had made during the sessions such as bird feeders, mug trees and a tic tac toe game. Bob took the idea back to B&Q and it was decided to build not just a bigger tic tac toe game, but the biggest in Scotland.”
