GRAND EFFORT . . . the school receives the 1,000 prize.

A TEAM from Bellshill Academy were rewarded for daring to enter the ‘Dragons’ Lair’ when they scooped first prize in a business enterprise competition.

Dillon McPherson, Stacey Marshall and Sarah Cowie fought off fierce competition from five other schools to win the North Lanarkshire Enterprise Initiative, run jointly by North Lanarkshire Council and Business Gateway.

Collectively known as Grassias, the trio impressed the ‘dragons’ - a team of judges from local businesses - with their idea for producing an eco-friendly cordless lawnmower and trimmer.

And their efforts earned them prizes of Sony Vaio laptops and printers plus £1,000 for their school.

The lawnmower, run on solar charged batteries, with trimmer attached, allowing grass cutting to be made easier.
