Appeal after dog attacked on New Stevenston street

A POLICE investigation has been launched after a man was reportedly seen attacking a dog in New Stevenston.

An alarmed passer-by called police after allegedly witnessing the man kicking the animal several times on Jerviston Street around 3.45pm on Saturday.

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating an incident of animal cruelty after a member of the public reported seeing a man kicking a dog repeatedly as he walked on Jerviston Street.

“The man is described as white, 5’6”, of dirty appearance, slim and was wearing a grey jerkin and jeans.

“If you witnessed anything at this location and would like to speak to police, please call the community policing team on 01698 202400.”

The attack has been condemned by the Scottish SPCA.

Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said: “No animal deserves to be caused unnecessary suffering, but it is particularly abhorrent when suffering is inflicted in a deliberate and sustained manner.

“We would urge anyone with information to contact the police as soon as possible.”
