TEMPORARY traffic lights have been put in place on Bellshill’s Hamilton Road as part of North Lanarkshire Council’s work to create a new roundabout at the junction with Farmgate Square and Queens Crescent.
The traffic lights became operational on Tuesday, April 17, and will be in place 24 hours a day for up to six weeks to allow the final stages of the work to be completed.
Access from Farmgate Square and Queens Crescent will remain closed during this stage of the work.
When it is complete the roundabout will aim to help slow the speed of vehicles along Hamilton Road, as well as improving access to the residential areas north and south of this main road.
Its construction is part of the council’s Town Centre Action Plan to improve traffic management in and around the centre of Bellshill.
During the construction work parts of Farmgate Square, Mansfield Road and Queens Crescent have been closed and diversions continue to operate via Hamilton Road, Orbiston Road, Crofthead Crescent, Caledonian Avenue and Blackmoss Drive.
The roundabout is expected to be complete by the end of May.
