Two Motherwell friends moved by the plight of migrants in Calais are preparing to walk almost 500 miles to help.

Kenneth Duffy and Nikki McMillan were inspired to take action after watching the crisis unfold on TV.

The pair, both 25, will walk from their home town to Dover, leaving on October 8 and arriving 10 days later, just in time to meet volunteers from the Wishaw to Calais appeal.

The local appeal has been collecting donations from all over the country after being set up to support migrants at the French port town.

Kenneth said: “I originally intended to help out with the project but I wanted to help raise awareness and do something furthermore to the cause.

“Raising money and receiving supplies is important to this cause, but raising awareness and changing the narrative is vital.”

Kenneth and Nikki will help the Wishaw to Calais team distribute clothing, toiletries and other essential items. Their efforts will also raise cash for the Refugee Action charity. To sponsor them visit www.everyclick.com/motherwell4calais.
