PUPILS from Newarthill Primary School won gold and silver medals at the Lanarkshire Association of Burns’ Clubs (LABC) regional finals in Clyde Valley High.

Kiera Gibson was awarded a gold medal for topping the senior instrumental section for the rendition of a ‘Scottish Medley’ on the trumpet while Amy Forrester struck silver in the senior reader section with ‘Ye banks and braes.’

Both will now go forward to the Robert Burns World Federation National Festival in Dunfermline High School on April 27, while Sacred Heart Primary in Bellshill will go forward to the Scottish National Choral Festival in Armadale Academy on May 11.

Sponsors of the regional finals included Boyd Tunnock, John Chapman, Supercounty and Ravenscraig Burns Club.
