New College Lanarkshire student Jonathan Samson is under consideration to represent the UK at WorkSkills, the world’s largest skills show, being held in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
This comes after the 18-year-old was awarded silver in the Network Infrastructure Technician category at WorkSkillsUK, part of the The Skills Show, in Birmingham’s NEC.
Jonathan from Motherwell is one of four college students aiming to be on the plane to the United Arab Emirates along with Betsy Crosbie, Calum Waltho and Christopher Hugh Reid.
The college won a total of six medals and has seven highly commended from the event in Birmingham.
Kyle Closs (20) from Bellshill won gold in IT Software Solutions for Business and Reece Dodds (22) from Bellshill was highly commended for Popular Music as a member of the group The Unspoken.
College principal Martin McGuire said: “The students’ hard work and determination has paid off, and everyone at the college is delighted for them.
“Having four students being considered for Team UK is a fantastic accolade and strengthens our commitment to providing the best possible provision for skills development.”
